Vermilion is about 20 miles east of Sandusky.  It is a sailor's city, home to more than 50 Great Lakes sailing captains over the years.  Many of the old downtown buildings have been renovated and designated "Harbor Town".

Over the years, Vermilion has been a destination for many Akron Power Squadron rendezvous.  We like to stay at the City Docks.

A highlight of each visit is a trip to the Inland Seas Museum.  Here you'll find fascinating displays and models of the Great Lakes ships over the years.   They also have an extensive collection of videotapes -- we found one of the S. T. Crapo, the freighter that my father worked as radio operator during the thirties.
We've enjoyed the walking tour of the city, past the many sea captain's homes and other historic buildings of downtown.  If you're hungry, there are several restaurants near the city docks, including the award-winning Chez Francois, right next door.

Finally, no visit of Vermilion is complete without a trip down the Vermilion Lagoons, canals lined by trees and beautiful "Cape Cod" homes, with their boats tied-up in front.
